HackAmherst I was a success, stayed tuned for II (tenatively Fall 2018)

HackAmherst was created with a simple goal in mind:

to make coding as accessible as possible

As students at a small liberal arts college with an even smaller CS department, we're as aware as anybody else that there often seems to exist a "coder:non-coder" binary. The purpose of HackAmherst, therefore, is to bridge that divide by offering an exciting pre-hack schedule designed for those with no experience, an excellent line-up of mentors, and an exhilarating hacking experience.

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is an invention marathon. Students come together to build cool software & hardware hacks over 24-48 hours. It’s very beginner friendly.

Who is allowed to participate?

Anyone who's a current student: registration at the event will require presentation of a valid student ID.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

If you are not an Amherst College student, we will have seeping bags for you and allotted places to sleep.

Do I need to be a CS major or need to know how to code?

Certainly not! In fact, we expressedly encourage non-CS majors to explore hacking! And if you have no experience coding, then our pre-hack schedule is for you.

Do I need a team?

You can work in a group of up to 4, and don't worry if you don't come with one / a fully-formed one -- there'll be time for that at the event!

Code of conduct?

Yes, and it's here
